TL;DR:

Explore beginner shooting

A short checklist before you leave the house saves you from a confusing check-in. Most of what you actually need is simple, but a few items matter more than people expect.

Clothing matters more than most beginners assume. Loose sleeves or scarves near the ejection port of a semi-automatic firearm are a real snag risk, and open-toed shoes leave your feet exposed to hot casings. If you’re unsure what a specific package includes, our beginner-focused overview walks through what to expect before you arrive.

Prioritize the booking confirmation and ID first since front-desk staff will ask for both before anything else happens. Protective gear and payment come next, and everything else, including your phone, is secondary once you’re inside.

Before anyone touches a firearm, you’ll sign an acknowledgement confirming you understand the range’s safety rules. This isn’t a formality: Estonian regulation requires range users to be informed of and follow the posted safety rules, and that confirmation is signed before handling begins.

The good news for beginners is that supervised introductory sessions typically don’t require a firearm license. You shoot under direct instructor supervision, using range-owned firearms, which is different from the legal path toward owning a gun. That path runs through the relvaeksam, the firearm license exam, which Police of Estonia guidance confirms includes both a theory component and a live-fire test, and recommends practicing at a range beforehand.

Expect a minimum age requirement, a liability waiver, and a check of your ID against your booking. Range classification rules also require that first-time shooters receive a safety introduction and sign a confirmation, regardless of which specific range they visit.

A supervised indoor session is built so you arrive with almost nothing and still shoot safely. Expect the instructor, eye and ear protection, paper targets, and a basic firearm rental to be included in most beginner packages.

You’ll need to bring your own firearm and ammunition only if you’re practicing privately toward the relvaeksam or already hold a license and want range access for your own gear. If you’re chasing a specific firearm model or a specialty package, like a tactical or group event, it’s worth confirming availability before you book rather than assuming everything is on hand. Our visitor standards guide outlines what’s typically covered by a standard session versus what requires advance notice.

Every supervised session opens with a briefing, and the rules are consistent regardless of which firearm you use. Four principles cover almost everything:

You’ll also learn a short set of range commands: “load,” “cease fire,” “unload,” and how to signal a malfunction rather than trying to clear it yourself. Responding correctly and immediately to these commands is non-negotiable, and instructors watch closely during your first few shots specifically for this.

The Estonian regulation on range safety requirements mandates this briefing and signed acknowledgement for every first-time shooter, so it isn’t optional paperwork. Ranges are also required to have first-aid equipment, clear communication tools, and a designated person responsible for enforcing safety at all times.

Pro Tip: Ask your instructor to repeat the cease-fire command meaning before your first string of shots. Knowing exactly what to do in that half-second removes most of the nervousness beginners feel.

Our short rules guide for first-timers covers these commands in more depth if you want a refresher before you arrive.

Booking usually asks for your preferred date, group size, and whether you want a beginner package or something more specific. Reserve at least a few days ahead for weekends, and earlier for group or corporate slots.

Plan to arrive 10 to 15 minutes before your session starts. That window covers front-desk check-in, ID verification against your booking, and signing the safety acknowledgement, all before you ever reach the firing line.

Most ranges accept card payment, and cancellation or rescheduling policies vary by provider, so confirm the terms when you book rather than assuming you can shift the time freely. If you’re arriving by car, ask about parking when you reserve, since availability near central venues can be tight depending on the day.

A few red flags will get your session cut short or refused outright, and they’re worth knowing in advance.

A well-run first session follows a predictable rhythm, and knowing the structure in advance helps you relax into it.

It starts with the safety briefing and your signed confirmation, which is required before any firearm comes out. Next comes dry handling, holding an unloaded firearm, learning the grip, and getting familiar with its controls under direct supervision. From there, instructors walk you through stance, sight alignment, and trigger control, usually with a demonstration first.

The coaching rhythm that follows is simple: the instructor demonstrates, you attempt it under supervision, and you get specific corrective feedback before the next attempt. Our guide to choosing an instructor explains what to look for if you’re comparing options for a private or group session.

A single supervised session is enough to learn the fundamentals, not enough to replace course-based certification. What often surprises beginners is how much the mental side matters: staying calm, breathing steadily, and following a consistent routine tends to improve faster than raw technical precision.

A trainer perspective on beginner shooting notes that accuracy starts with mindset as much as mechanics, and that calm focus paired with instructor-led guidance helps first-timers perform well faster than they expect. One visit introduces you to stance, grip, and trigger control, but it won’t prepare you for the relvaeksam on its own. Repeat visits or a short structured course build the consistency that exam-level practice requires.

Not every beginner package is built the same way, and a few questions upfront prevent disappointment later.

If you’re organizing a company outing, our team-building overview and corporate event guide cover group formats and what to ask about supervision ratios in more detail.

We built our sessions around the exact concerns a beginner has: no experience is required, every session is supervised by professional instructors, and safety training is built into the start of each visit. We offer an indoor facility with a wide selection of firearms, so you’re never stuck with one option that doesn’t fit your group or your nerves.

Whether you’re a tourist looking for something memorable, planning a bachelor or bachelorette party, celebrating a birthday, or organizing a corporate team-building day, we have packages built for exactly that. Options like Minu esimene pauk suit a true first-timer, while Dünaamiline Duo and VIP Duo work well for couples or small groups wanting a shared experience.

Browse our gift cards and beginner packages to book a session or buy one as a gift, or reach out directly to ask which package fits your group size and experience level best.

No, supervised introductory sessions typically don’t require a firearm license since you shoot under direct instructor supervision using range-owned equipment. A license becomes relevant only if you’re pursuing the relvaeksam or want to own a firearm yourself, which Police of Estonia guidance explains in detail.

Wear closed-toe shoes and fitted clothing without loose scarves, dangling jewelry, or low necklines. This matters because hot brass and moving parts on some firearms pose a real snag or burn risk to loose fabric.

Yes, supervised ranges are specifically designed for first-timers, with mandatory briefings, signed safety acknowledgements, and instructor-led coaching throughout. Regulations require every first-time shooter to be introduced to the safety rules and to confirm understanding with a signature before handling any firearm.

Most beginner sessions run under an hour once you include check-in, the safety briefing, and your supervised shooting time. The exact length depends on the specific package, so confirm shot count and instructor time when you book.

Only if you already hold a valid firearm license and are using range access for private practice rather than a supervised introductory session. Beginner packages are built around range-supplied firearms and instructor supervision, so there’s no need to own anything beforehand.

Step by step playbook for first time shooters in Estonia: what to pack, the mandatory safety briefing, legal rules, and recommended Tondi packages.

[495
1029,1030,1031,1032,1033,1034
post-88216","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-shooting-range","tag-shooting-at-the-range","tag-shooting-in-tallinn","tag-shooting-package","tag-shooting-range","tag-shooting-range-in-tallinn","tag-shooting-training
